OCTOBER

Twelve months of giving

The Grand Foundation is happy to launch
Twelve Months of Giving for 2019!

Each month this year we will highlight a different non-profit group and spread the word about all the wonderful happenings that are going on in the communities that Grand Appliance stores are located. The Grand Foundation will support the chosen organization by donating to them and providing information to our supporters about these groups if people also choose to donate, volunteer, etc.

If you would like a chance to be highlighted for the Twelve Months of Giving for 2020 apply now!

WAUKEGAN TO COLLEGE

For the month of October, the Grand Foundation is thrilled to feature Waukegan to College! Waukegan to College (W2C) creates brighter futures for students, families and their community by preparing students to enroll in, and graduate from, college. To achieve this mission they provide a suite of wraparound services which support students and their families from elementary school through college graduation.

W2C offers academic, social and emotional support in a safe and structured environment for some of the most vulnerable young people in Lake County, Illinois. Students are prepared to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood through a progressive series of activities, and enrichment experiences helping them improve academically, become socially, emotionally and cognitively competent and ultimately, become first generation college graduates.

W2C provides students: weekly tutoring, one-on-one homework help, literacy education, math tutoring, monthly family workshops, individual mentoring, field trips to arts and cultural venues, workplace site visits, college application assistance, SAT/ACT prep, college planning workshops, one-on-one college advising, and financial aid assistance.

After high school graduation, W2C college persistence programming helps students adjust to campus life with a summer workshop series, and ensures that each college freshman has a mentor who will check-in regularly, as well as a peer mentor. While in college, students continue to receive regular communication, advising, scholarship, networking, internship opportunities and on-campus support.
